A nice stopover between Caladesi Island and Anclote Key is 3 Rooker Bar.
This nice sized sand bar is home to soft sands and a plethora of nice
shells. We were able to anchor pretty easily on the south east side of
the bar. The currents were a bit strong that day, so I definitely
recommend getting as close to the shore as you can.
If coming up the Intercoastal Waterway, you can come out of the channel
at red bouy 28 and make a steady course of about 310° true. This
will take you through solid 6 - 7 foot water approaching the bar. As
always, consult a real chart when questioning depth.
The surrounding islands make a beautiful back drop for this anchorage
and the island itself is a great little hideaway from the packed beaches
normally encountered. Although there were other boaters in the area, it
was still peaceful enough to enjoy a nice lunch.
A point worth noting is that this bar has been recently designated as a
a bird sanctuary. So this means no bottles are allowed on the island or
within 400 feet of it. We did see someone get ticketed.
