In October 2002, I was fortunate enough to accompany a friend to the West Indian Island of Montserrat. Although the people of Montserrat are still dealing with a newly active volcano, the island remains alive and just as beautiful as ever before. I could not recommend this more as the greatest place on the Earth to get away from the drudgery of day to day life. I met so many wonderful people and had some great experiences. I will definitely go back.

There are quite a few sites where you can find information about Montserrat. I recommend David Lea's www.priceofparadise.com. If you want to see what Montserrat is all about, I would highly suggest buying a few of his videos. His newest The Magic Of Montserrat is great!

A few other sites are: To view some of my pictures from this great trip, select a gallery from the lists below.
Montserrat Antigua
Flight :: Tampa to San Juan, PR
A very uneventful flight. However, I did want to take some pictures of the beautiful seascape of Puerto Rico and some of San Juan's Skyline.
 Getting to Montserrat from Antigua
A few pictures of St. John's Antigua and the Montserrat Ferry Service. The best pictures here are those of Montserrat taken from the ferry as we approached the island.
 The Soufriere Hills Volcano
These are several pictures of the volcano from an area above and on the old golf course. This area is now part of the Exclusion Zone.
 Views from Jack Boy Hill
Jack Boy Hill is on the eastern side of the island and overlooks the old W.H. Bramble Airport. It is one of the better vantage spots for the volcano.
 Around Montserrat
This collection of pictures so some of the great vistas and people of Montserrat.
 La Soca
Tom and Mary Ann Walker were so nice to allow Mike and I to stay at their beautiful home -- La Soca. After Mike worked our fingers to the bone, this was the resort we came back to.
 Woodlands
Just so everyone knows I wasn't kidding about this being a working vacation I have included some pictures of our "workplace". This is known as "The Ruins" and is on part of Mike's Property.
 Dinner at the Lea's
David and Clover Lea were kind enough to have us over for a delicious dinner one night. They already had a houseful with other missionaries and there their 3 sons (Jessie, Sunny & Noah) but they made us feel perfectly at home.
 Leaving Montserrat
Some more wonderful views of the island from the ferry back to Antigua.
English Harbour / Nelson's Dockyard, Antigua
This is one of Antigua's most historic sites, it is focused on the fifteen square miles of Nelson's Dockyard National Park. Developed as a base for the British Navy in the great age of sail, the harbour served as the headquarters of the fleet of the Leeward Islands during the turbulent years of the late 18th century. Although the dockyard was greatly expanded at that time by Horatio Nelson, it was gradually abandoned in the nineteenth century and was closed in 1889. Today Nelson's Dockyard has been completely restored, and it is now the only Georgian dockyard in the world.
 Touring Antigua
Mike and I had a great drive around Antigua. What a beautiful island.
 Shirley Heights
What a great place for a Sunday afternoon BBQ, rum punch, and the plangent strains of steel band and reggae music. From here the views of English Harbour and Nelson's Dockyard are absolutely breathtaking.
