Use this Checklist to inspect your boat’s equipment for compliance with legal requirements and to make sure it’s safely equipped. Unless noted as “recommended,” the items listed are required by law.

The Inspection is not intended to be a boat survey, but rather an equipment and conditions guide and checklist that help you identify areas needing attention to ensure that your boat is safe for you and your passengers and in compliance with the law.

If you haven't yet downloaded the Inspection Guide as a supplement to this checklist, please take time to print and read it before beginning your inspection.

The Guide helps you understand the equipment you are inspecting and what legal requirements apply to your boat. It also provides guidelines to aid your inspection and provides some recommendations. We recommend that you download, print and read the Guide, then print out the Checklist, taking both to your boat when you perform your inspection.

The checklist is organized as follows:
  • Section 1: Overall Boat Condition
  • Section 2: Equipment
  • Section 3: Onboard Systems
  • Section 4: Registration, Numbering & Documentation
We recommend that you download, print and read the Guide, then print out the Checklist, taking both to your boat when you perform your inspection.
